Highline Beta helps some of the biggest companies in the world execute a new model of corporate innovation to grow beyond their core business. Instead of relying on decades-old frameworks, Highline Beta focuses on not just providing strategy but also doing the execution work, from discovery and venture validation work to building whole new ventures from scratch.

But the work they do is only half the equation: it’s also a fantastic place to be an employee — the company even won an award from Fast Company for their awesome culture. It’s a workplace that people passionate about corporate innovation can really sink their teeth into.

When it comes to thinking about your next career move, here are the six reasons why Highline Beta should be at the top of your list.

1 — You’re helping household names build innovative ventures

Working for Highline Beta means you’re supporting global brands like Kraft, RBC, and AB InBev to expand beyond their horizons with a new model of corporate innovation. Each brand is unique both in the challenges they face and the inner workings of the company, which means your work will always be fresh and exciting. While many consulting firms have done projects with global brands, the Highline Beta team works a bit differently. So instead of sitting behind a desk and delivering white papers to the CEO, you’re embedded onto a client team and build corporate ventures.

2 — You’ll never be bored

Highline Beta helps large businesses accelerate their innovation plans and scale innovation quickly. However, there is no one-size-fits-all. Instead, the company works in four key ways to help clients: Internal business creation, corporate accelerator program management, startup co-creation, and corporate venture capital. Highline Beta even has its own seed-stage VC fund so it can invest in startups, both co-created corporate partners and ones it builds on its own. With this wide mix of services and work, you’ll never be bored repeating the same framework over and over again.

3 — It’s the perfect balance of startup and corporate

A key part of Highline Beta’s success is how fluid the work is. As an employee on the Delivery team, you’ll be working with large enterprises on their innovation growth strategy and implementation. At the same time, you’ll be following the data and figuring out what will actually work for the client’s goals. That means conducting original research, surveys, and interviews just like you would in a startup environment, then translating those key takeaways into a scalable, commercial strategy for a large enterprise. Your work balances the line between corporate scale and process orientation with startup ingenuity and agility.

4 — You’re trusted with autonomy and responsibility from day one

Highline Beta’s Delivery teams operate in a pod structure, with small teams put together for each corporate client. Since working on a corporate venture can last anywhere from 6–12+ months, you’ll get the chance to deeply connect with your team. On top of that, teams are designed to have every skill set necessary for the venture but otherwise stay agile and lean. That means you’ll have real responsibility for your part of the work with immense support from other team members along the way.

5 — You’re working with the best in the business

Everyone on the 30+ person Highline Beta team has unique experiences. The leadership team is known in the industry as successful serial entrepreneurs, operators and investors. The core team is made up of both successful corporate innovators and entrepreneurial leaders, so every employee gets both perspectives. As a member of the delivery team, you’ll regularly work with founding partner Ben Yoskovitz, who literally wrote the book on startup analytics. This is on top of the other team members, all of whom are subject matter experts in various delivery and support roles.

6 — Diversity and inclusion is baked in

Highline Beta has always been committed to founder and funder diversity and the team doesn’t just talk about it: the team is 50% women and 40% people who identify as coming from diverse backgrounds (BIPOC or newcomers to Canada). The organization also acquired Female Funders, an investor education program that teaches women how to invest in startups, in 2017 and helped launch Future Capital in 2020. The team also published the Women in Venture report to raise awareness for gender equality in startups and venture creation. Both of these initiatives are dedicated to educating and empowering diverse investors.

Now the team is focused on increasing founder diversity in their co-created ventures, specifically targeting 50% female founder representation through the Highline Beta Venture Studio.

Highline Beta sits perfectly in the middle. Not only are you leveraging a startup mentality to help large corporations further their innovation agendas, but you’re also joining a team of seasoned professionals who know what they are doing in the industry.
